The credit landscape in Asia remained under severe pressure in 2022 amid one of the toughest market backdrops seen in decades. Rising interest rates, higher inflation and elevated geopolitical tensions were among the factors that impacted the fund-raising capabilities of both issuers and borrowers, raising their liquidity and refinancing risks. This resulted in a higher number of negative rating actions for the year, outpacing the positive ones. A number of investment-grade credits saw their ratings downgraded into non-investment grade or high-yield category.
