International law firm Simmons & Simmons has appointed Jeffrey Friedenberg as its head of private funds, an appointment that further strengthens its funds team and marks an important step in its practice in the Asia-Pacific and Greater China region.
Based in the firm’s Hong Kong office, Friedenberg will work closely across the region with Eva Chan, head of the company’s Hong Kong office, and Ivy Yam, both partners in the company’s asset management and investment funds practice.
He joins from Angelo Gordon where he was a partner and managing director and head of legal and compliance for Europe and Asia. At Angelo Gordon, he provided transactional, advisory and regulatory counsel for more than 10 years to the firm’s private equity real estate, private credit and client partnership groups.
Friedenberg brings more than 20 years of experience in the asset management and investments funds sector, with a particular focus on advising international and regional asset managers, financial institutions, investment advisers, family offices and institutional investors. His practice includes representing private fund managers in fund formation, capital raising, portfolio investments, fund regulatory and compliance, and fund operational issues.
“Friedenberg’s deep understanding of the complexities of fund formation, capital raising and regulatory compliance will be invaluable as we continue to expand our presence in the Asia-Pacific and Greater China region,” Chan notes. “His expertise will greatly benefit our clients and enhance our capabilities in private funds.”
